European Union's Sustainable Intelligent Mining Systems - Battery Powered Mining Equipment
Adrian Halim, Luleå University of Technology
This paper outlines the work package about battery powered mining equipment in Sustainable Intelligent Mining Systems (SIMS) project that is funded by the European Union (EU). This work package will demonstrate state-of-the-art clean mobile-mining technology from Epiroc in use in a mining environment. This technology will enable a diesel-free underground mine using mobile machinery powered by battery technology. It will physically demonstrate machines and part of the infrastructure needed for battery powered machines, together forming a solution for (part of) a diesel-free mine. This paper outlines the progress of the project and the incoming activities which focus on the trial of Epiroc's new battery powered mining equipment namely ST14 LHD, MT42 truck, and Boomer E2 jumbo in Agnico Eagle's Kittilä mine in Finland in 2019.
