Emergency hoist system at PCS Mining
CIM Bulletin, Vol. 79, No. 885, 1986
DONALD ROBERTS Shaft/Hoist Specialist, PCS Mining Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Parameters for design and development of an emergency hoist system (Fig. 1) were submitted to Timberland Equipment Limited of Woodstock, Ontario by the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Mining Limited.
The unit is the first of its kind in Canada. Not only does it comply with the province of Saskatchewan's mining regulations, but has the added advantage of being completely mobile and self-contained.
As well as being useful in the mining industry, the mobile hoist unit could be used in other emergency situations such as rescuing people trapped in wells.
