The original flowsheet of the TANCO mill consisted of a simple two-stage gravity circuit for the recovery of the tantalum concentrates. With decreasing grade and grain size of the tantalum minerals, considerable modifications to the circuit have been required. This paper discusses the various recent improvements carried out on all stages of the flowsheet, which have resulted in a 10% increase in recovery. Future improvements, including on-stream analysis, and the possibility, of tantalum flotation, are also discussed.
