Stainless Steels to Combat Corrosion
G. E. ROWAN
D URING the dark ages, the cherished dream of chemists was to find a process for converting base metal into gold. Many a wealthy-but-gullible patron lost a fortune in the search. Men who work with metals today are a bit more realistic. I haven't heard of a metallurgist who expects to develop any one alloy that will resist all corrosive media. In the field of stainless steels, there are about forty different types of alloys that are used where corrosion is a problem.
