Some Developments in Aluminum Reduction
T. G. EDGEWORTH
Some of the historical background of the industry is reviewed, with reference to the different types of reduction cells in use for aluminum smeltinlj\". Factors to be considered in cell design involve capital, power, and operating costs. The trend is apparently toward larger cells. The industry is studying new construction materials for cell linings, as well as alternate electrolyte compositions and other design changes which will improve productivity and energy efficiency. The aluminum smelting activity in other countries is briefly reviewed.
