Selection of Electric Drives for Mining Applications
L. GILL
The four basic t ypes of electric motors - squirrel-cage, wound rotor, synchronous and D.C. - are described, with particular reference to s peed-torque characteristics. The three classifications of squirrel-cage motors, C.E.M.A. B, C and D, are compared, and methods of selection for specific drives a re outlined. Wound rotor and synchronous mot ors a re covered from the viewpoint of construction details, methods of operation and control required. The application of these motors to crusher s, conveyor s and ball mills is described and reasons for their select ion are given.
