Ore Pebble Regrind of Sulphide Concentrates in the Hardy Concentrator Falconbridge

The metallurgical treatment of Falconbridge ore requires an extremely fine grind of the pyrrhotite portion • for maximum liberation and recovery of nickel. This paper describes the operation of a grate discharge pebble mill in closed circuit with cyclones regrinding 25 to 30 tons per hour of sulphides to approximately 90 per cent minus 325 mesh. The consumption of the screened ore grinding medium is of the order of 2.5 pounds per kw.-hour, or less than 1 per cent of the tonnage of reground sulphides.
