Metallurgical Coals for the Future
A. D. FISHER, Vice-President, The Steel Company of Canada, Limited, Toronto, Ontario
This paper describes the future position of metallurgical coal, particularly as applied to Canadian reserves. Quality coking coal is declining in availability, but preheating practices may alleviate this situation to some extent. Two new processes are discussed in the paper - formed coke and direct reduction - and their coal specifications are outlined.
