Mechanical Plant Design at Port Cartier

CIM Bulletin, 1963

The Quebec Cartier Mining Company produces iron concentrate for twelve months of the year from Port Cartier. This port is designed to handle s hips varying in size from 3,000 to 100,000 d.w.t., requiring 50 feet of water at low tide. The harbour was built on shore for reasons of economy and layout, after considering many more conventional offshore designs. It provides for heavy oil bunkering, tanker off-loading, a heavy lift derrick and freight handling, besides ship loading and mooring.
