Maintenance planning and scheduling to overcome the manpower shortage in the industry
michel cote, Norda Stelo
Most organizations in North America are currently faced with the reality of having an aging maintenance workforce that is retiring in large numbers year after year and it becomes more and more difficult to replace these experienced tradesmen especially when there is a shortage of upcoming new tradesmen in the industry. With this presentation, I will explain how to mitigate and go over the manpower shortage by implementing demonstrated best practices in maintenance management, and that is planning and scheduling. In the form of a case study, I will explain how one world class smelter in the province of Quebec managed to increase production output and improve reliability with a reduction of almost 50% of it's maintenance workforce over a period of 5 to 6 years.
