Maintenance, Metallurgy and Mining
THE DICTIONARY defines Metallurgy as the "science or art of separating metals from their ores and refining them for use". In these days, however, such a definition is not detailed enough. The modern science of metallurgy is based on two fundamental sciences, physics .and chemistry, and is sub-divided into two major fields: Process Metallurgy and Physical Metallurgy. These fields of metallurgy are now so comprehensive and involved that even the graduate metallurgist has to specialize in one or the other.
