Low ... Temperature Fluidized Carbonization in Relation to Energy Production

CIM Bulletin, 1958

C. MORELAND

Fluidized low-temperature carbonization of coal, a recent development, offers a possibility of reducing fuel costs of coal-burning electric generating plants. . The Research Council of Alberta have built a pilot plant and are conduction a programme to -develop a carbonization plant for Alberta subbituminous coals which will produce char suitable for use as a .boiler fuel, and tar of a potentially high value as a chemical raw material. The economies of the process as a whole, and the value of the tar, have yet to be assessed.
