IN THE COURSE of a spectrographic investigation of the platinum metal content of various minerals in sulphide ores, the use of fire-assay beads dissolved in goldamalgam ( 1) was found suitable for the quantitative determination of palladium and platinum. Later work on platinum and bismuth-rich beads showed however, that these could not always be readily mixed uniformly in the amalgam.
