Government and the Mining lndustry

CIM Bulletin, 1968

The Honourable ALLAN F. LAWRENCE, Minister of Mines for Ontario, Toronto, Ont.

I suggest to you that the only satisfactory basis on which government and the industry can work together is one in which each looks upon the other as a partner in the vastly important business of developing the nation's resources with the maximum benefit to all. This attitude will require a lot of faith - the kind of faith that can be built up only over a period of many years, and the kind of faith that can stand differences of opinion secure in the knowledge that both sides; -each in its own way, are working toward the same goal. I honestly believe that here in Ontario we have established such a mutual faith, and if government and the industry continue their present practices of fair dealing there is no apparent reason that the partnership should not grow constantly stronger.
