DUNCAN R. DERRY
TOWARD the end of 1946, the Field Geology Committee of the Geology Division formed a Sub-Committee on Mapping, Field Methods, and Mining Geology . The work of this Sub-Committee was mainly that of assembling information and ideas from geologists across the country, which information comes under two main headings of field technique and standardization of map symbols. This article comes under the first heading and is compiled largely from the answers to a questionnaire circulated to a number of experienced geologists both through the mails and at the 1947 Annual Meeting of the Institute.
