Blasting Slurries

CIM Bulletin, 1960

THE IRON ORE Company of Canada has been using do-it-yourself type explosives for three years. During the last 12 months we have used over 10 million pounds of ammonium nitrate-fuel oïl explosives and either purchased or formulated one million pounds of slurried explosives. W e have been moving approximately one million cubic yards of stripping and ore per month and we expect our production rate to increase. Eighty per cent of our stripping and ore is soft enough to be blasted successfully with ammonium nitrate-fuel oïl mixtures.
